GATEWAY CHURCH
TRAFFIC ENGINEERING
Project
DeShazo Group was retained to evaluate and improve the traffic operations on Davis Boulevard at Gateway Church’s primary entrance. The study focused on eliminating hazardous turning movements and enhancing operational efficiency for both daily and peak service volumes.
⛪ Religious Facilities | 📍 North Richland Hills, Texas
📐 Scope: Turn lane analysis and traffic safety improvement
🏢 Client: Gateway Church
🚦 Traffic Maneuver Safety Analysis
1. Evaluated unsafe northbound turns occurring in the southbound left-turn lane
2. Assessed existing road geometry and traffic behavior at the Rumfield Road and church driveway intersections
📊 Data-Driven Queue Modeling
1. Conducted turning movement counts and developed a 95th percentile queue analysis
2. Used empirical traffic volumes to recommend solutions that safely accommodate current and projected demand
🚗 Right Turns, Right Design
Improving safety and efficiency for worshippers through strategic lane reconfiguration.
1. Recommended restriping of southbound left-turn bay to create two dedicated zones:
• 100 ft queue storage for Rumfield Rd
• 67 ft two-way left-turn lane for Gateway Church entry
2. Increased operational clarity and reduced confusion for drivers
1. Proposed lane configuration designed to handle future increases in traffic volume
2. Ensured the solution remained effective during both weekday and high-attendance church events
