DeShazo Group was hired to review the current Capital One G3 parking design and provide a functional parking design that would improve the internal traffic flow of the garage and overall conditions. Options and issues addressed included: changing a number of “regular” parking spaces (where columns encroached and caused vehicles to extend into the aisle of the garage) to “accessible” spaces; improving the turning radii along the major access and circulation routes; placing bollards at the elevator and stair locations to protect pedestrians; replacing wheel stops with curbs; and providing adequate room for vehicles to turn around at the end of the garage. The firm’s revised design not only improved internal flow and safety, but added 31 spaces to the garage’s capacity.
