Higher Education / Lubbock, Texas The DeShazo Group provided an assessment of potential campus-related traffic and safety improvements for the Lubbock campus. DeShazo Group examined access, site circulation, parking, wayfinding, and pedestrian experience. DeShazo Group was engaged to provide recommendations to the University and project team regarding traffic engineering and parking improvements. This was to optimize vehicular and pedestrian operations on its campus. As a part of these improvements, the campus committee wanted DeShazo to look at deficient traffic access points, vehicular and pedestrian safety, and improve overall site circulation. These are few examples of the findings: Implementation of pedestrian accessibility and wayfinding measures for the main campus and its backside parking lots improved pedestrian safety and walkability. By updating the campus signage, drivers will be able to understand the campus layout more clearly. Adding, removing, and replacing signs in key areas also allowed for a more intuitive layout of the property that directed traffic more efficiently and safely Motorists will navigate more efficiently since they will be less likely to drive around to find their destination. Instead, they will follow signs to go directly to their destination. Adding new road connections can increase traffic mobility on campus. These roadway connections can lead to lowered traffic on the east side of the campus and reduce the traffic demand on the campus. Traffic connections can limit pedestrian mobility since there are more cars traveling, so speed-limiting actions like bump-outs, pedestrian crossings, and speed limit signs can be used. |
