CRANDALL COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
Community Planning / Crandall, Texas A city’s comprehensive plan is a statement of the community's future vision and a guide in achieving that vision. Generally, its purpose is to guide its anticipated growth in a manner that provides a balance of land uses that promote economic growth while retaining the community's quality of life. It is the foundation for making changes or developing new regulations that implement identified vision, goals and policies. Among its several components are "land use" and "transportation" plans. DeShazo Group, Inc., assisted in updating the Transportation Plan portion of the City of Crandall’s Comprehensive Plan. This effort included the development of design standards, roadway cross-sections and a Master Thoroughfare Plan. A baseline was initially established that identified the existing roadway conditions and traffic patterns throughout the city. The City of Crandall's current planning efforts, as well as those of surrounding communities, were reviewed and summarized. A series of public meetings was held to identify the key principles and objectives the residents of Crandall wanted to address as part of the update . Retreats were also held with City staff and elected officials to develop the framework of the plan. Once the future Land Use portion of the comprehensive plan was complete, DeShazo developed a Thoroughfare Plan that would accommodate these land uses and intensities. This plan not only identified the improvements needed for existing city roadways, but also the impacts of future annexations and proposed improvements by adjacent cities. The plan recommended cross-sections for each roadway and identified potential pedestrian and hike/bike opportunities. Finally, as part of the Strategic Plan development, DeShazo assisted the staff in creating a priority list of improvements for the City to use in its Capital Improvement process. |
