TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY
Higher Education / Dallas, Texas The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, located in Dallas, Texas, is one of the world’s top research facilities in the bio-medical science field. DeShazo Group has been the traffic consultant for the university for many years and developed the functional parking garage designs for five buildings built on its North Campus. The firm evaluated the master plan for the campus; evaluating both the existing and future transportation system, circulation patterns, approach routes/ entrances/exits, emergency service needs, conflict areas, origin/destination patterns, and existing and future parking capacity and needs, all of which were critical considerations for the master plan. Alternatives for connecting the Main Campus with the North Campus were analyzed in an effort to facilitate the flow of students, faculty, and visitors within the campus to maintain continuity and give the illusion of a single, large campus. A busway system with a standby walkway was designed and recommended by the firm. This "campus connector" would best address travel time, cost, accommodation of wheelchairs and carts, safety, and capacity. |
