UT SOUTHWESTERN MEDICAL CENTER
Master Plans / Dallas, Texas The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, located in Dallas, Texas, is one of the world’s top research facilities in the bio-medical science field. DeShazo Group has been the traffic consultant for the university for many years and developed the functional parking garage designs for five buildings built on its North Campus. The firm evaluated the master plan for the campus; evaluating both the existing and future transportation system, circulation patterns, approach routes/ entrances/exits, emergency service needs, conflict areas, and origin/destination patterns. Existing and future parking capacity and needs were critical considerations for the master plan. Alternatives for connecting the existing Main Campus with the North Campus were analyzed in an effort to facilitate the flow of students, faculty, and visitors within the campus while maintaining a continuity that would give the illusion of a single, large campus. A busway system with a standby walkway (campus connector) was recommended and designed by the firm. This "connector" would best address travel time, cost, accommodation of wheelchairs and carts, safety, and capacity. |
